Broward County FAQ

When you get a traffic ticket in Broward County, especially a moving violation, you have three options. The first option (the one the government hopes you take) is to just pay the full price of the traffic ticket. This is usually between $250 and $500 and you will get at least 3 (maybe 4 or 5) points on your driving record. Then about two months later your insurance will skyrocket. Also, if you get a few more tickets in the same year, your license will also be suspended. Thus, option one is a terrible option.

Your second option is to pay the ticket and elect traffic driving school. This option is better than the first one, but not by much. You will still pay the full price of the traffic ticket. However, in lieu of points, you get to pay for and attend 4-12 hours of driving school. Note, in Broward County you can only elect driving school one a year and five times in your life. This option is great if you have nothing to do all day (i.e.; don’t work, go to school or have a life) and wants to sit in class with the same people you met on the line when you got your license. You know what I am talking about. Of course, it will still cost you a lot of money in the short run, but it will keep points off your license. Not all traffic tickets permit you to elect driving school, so make sure you check before taking this option.

The third option is to hire a traffic ticket attorney. So you know we are sincere about this, we want you to know that if you do not hire the traffic ticket team, you should hire the ticket clinic or some other traffic ticket law firm as option 1 and 2 above are not good options. If you hire the Traffic Ticket Team | The Law Offices of Jason A. Diamond, P.A. here is what we will do. We first guarantee that you will get NO POINTS on your license and you will NOT have to go to DRIVING SCHOOL. If either of these happens, we give you your attorney’s fee back. 99% of our clients do not get points or driving school. About half the time, we get the ticket completely dismissed. If we don’t you will still get no points and no driving school, but you will pay a court cost. Here’s the good news, most of the time, even if you get court costs the total cost is less than the cost of the original tickets. With over 1,000,000 traffic tickets defended, we know what we are doing and will make sure you are represented by one of the most prolific traffic ticket attorneys in South Florida.

We get this question a lot. The short answer is, your driver’s license will get suspended. Then you will have to pay the traffic ticket, get the points, pay to have your license reinstated and take a full day of your life to do all of this. In Broward County, you will pay a lot more than you would have had you not ignored the traffic ticket. Also, if you drive while your license is suspended, you may be arrested. Thus, do not ignore a traffic ticket.

There are no automatic dismissals. Every Judge and Magistrate in Broward County is different. Each of them also has different standards to dismiss a traffic ticket. Some will dismiss if the statute cited is wrong. Some will dismiss the dates or the defendant’s name is incorrect. Keep in mind, many Judges will permit the officer to amend the traffic ticket if there is a clerical error, others do not. Yes, there should be more consistency, but like most issues in the courtroom, the Judges have great discretion.

For Broward County, this is generally a no. A police officer can only issue a traffic ticket within his or her jurisdiction. There are exceptions, but most often, no.

There are several advantages to hiring a traffic ticket lawyer in Broward County to fight your traffic ticket. First, you are guaranteed to get no points or driving school or you get your money back. Second, you will have someone looking out for your rights. Third, you have someone fighting back for you. Lastly, it’s your only chance of getting no points on your license without sitting is driving school.

That’s a short question, which requires a very long answer. Every case is different, but here are the basics. First, you MUST call us right away. In Broward County, you only have 10 days to file to get your license back. This is the civil (license part) of your case. Second, you need to hire a lawyer to fight your charges (the criminal jail part). A DUI conviction can affect your job, ability to drive, get credit and stay free. You could go to jail for up to a year or more if it’s not your first DUI. There are so many other issues that we would need to discuss, but suffice it to say, call your lawyer before you call anyone else.

Probably easier to tell you what not to do. In Broward County when the officer asks you if you know why he pulled you over, do not say, “Because I was speeding”. If you do, you just confessed. Just say “no officer”. Do not argue. Do not make excuses. Do not beg. Just take the ticket and be respectful. Your job is to remain as anonymous as possible. If he does not remember you, we will have an easier time beating the traffic ticket for you.

As far as a red light ticket goes, we fight it the same way as other tickets. There are other defenses as well. You should hire a traffic ticket lawyer for your red light ticket since it carries 3 points and large fines if you just pay it. In Broward County, too many of these can also get your license suspended. Thus, call the Traffic Ticket Team as soon as you get a red light traffic ticket and we will fight back for you.
